During the start of the play, the devious and antediluvial Richard has just had his brother Clarence arrested and placed in the Tower of London. utilise an order signed by their brother, King Edward, Richard has two murderers speed Clarences death in the tower. Richard also goes to speak with brothel keeper Anne, whose father and husband he had helped murder. She avers him showing no meekness toward Richards ideals, but is eventually overcome by Richards smooth words. At the end of the scene the ponderous Richard manages to worry her to marry him. Queen Margaret, an old lady who haunts the court, casts a curse upon the royal assembly. She predicts that the current Queen Elizabeths brother and sons will be killed, as will passkey Hastings, Buckingham, and lastly Richard. Her curse becomes the implicit in(p) plot of the play, although it is dissented by the other characters.
King Edward, who is sick, tries to force an creative activity in which his Queens family will become friends with his noblemen. Richard enters the room and immediately destroys this imperturbable scene by telling them that Clarence is dead.
